New GM Recall of 2012 Buick Regal (26V113)

GM has opened a recall for some 2012 model year Buick Regals. The specifics of this one are a bit odd, as it has some specific criteria:

  • Production date between Jan 03, 2012 - Aug 07, 2012
  • Trim level of Turbo or GS
  • Vehicle must have spent time in a “corrosion State”

GM has defined the corrosion states as: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin.

The reason for the recall, and why it only applies to vehicles that spent time in specific states, is that the manufacturer of a rear toe-link (suspension component) failed to apply an anti-corrosion coating. GM has deemed this part to be at risk of fracture, especially when exposed to corrosion, and can “reduce the ability to control the vehicle” and “increase the risk of a crash”.

Lastly, GM says they estimate owners will be notified by April 13th, via mail.
